We are writing to you with a heavy yet hopeful heart in regard to summer 2021. After carefully analyzing the current public health crisis and considering our families and staff, we have decided not to open Dream Day this summer. We feel it would be irresponsible of us to bring families together in this time when social distancing is our most effective tool at curbing the spread of Covid-19 and most importantly because many of our campers are at increased risk of potentially fatal consequences from the virus.

Having said that, we are committed to having Dream Day programs continue. Our families are often really isolated even without the quarantine they’ve had to endure, so it is important to provide services to them.

We want to bring camp to our families in these challenging times, to bring families together for support and we are working creatively to do just that. We will host an enhanced Dream Day Virtual Camp 2021. We realize that there is virtual fatigue for many of our isolated families, so we want to continue to deliver fun care packages directly to our families so that they can work on “Dream Day” projects offline.

Camp is and will always be about connection and community and while that is difficult to replicate online, we are rising to the challenges of Covid-19 and adapting programming accordingly. Our Virtual Camp will be enhanced and will include a library of content as well as live events. New events being considered are Zoom meetings for parents and caregivers where they can connect with each other as they do in-person at camp. We will also utilize new platforms to have camp be more interactive so that we can enhance the Dream Day experience.

The Dream Day team will continue to stay true to its core – to provide a safe community where our families can have fun while keeping alive Dream Day’s mission to provide respite to our families. There will still be campfires, arts and crafts and a sense of togetherness, just in a different way. The magic of Dream Day will be everywhere, reminding us all that camp is so much more than a place – it is a spirit and community that knows no bounds.

Closing down our physical location is a heartbreakingly difficult decision but one we feel is necessary. At its core, Dream Day seeks to provide a safe community where people can have fun as a family. We think that, in this unprecedented time, our Virtual Camp holds true to our core values and is the safest option for those that make our camp what it is, our families.

Please know that our staff and leadership will continue to do everything within our power to find a way back to “normal” here at Dream Day. We are already planning an expanded “Winter Holiday Weekend” for December. We will persevere despite Covid-19!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions. We will continue to send out more information as this the summer takes shape.

We hope you and your family are able to remain safe and healthy during these times, and we look forward to the day when we all meet again in person.
