How Can You Help
Hello, my name is Paul Hines, and I am a Dream Day on Cape Cod Board
Member. People are always asking me how I got involved with dream day, what
can they do to help us?
I started as a volunteer, helping at the Auction. When Dream day began leasing Camp Nan-Ke-Rafe, my involvement increased when I helped Dale Ormon organize the Great Cape Contractor Challenge. The Challenge was an event in which 150 volunteers came to the campground and help build the new As a board member, it is my duty (with other board members) to further Dream Day's mission of "bringing a ray of sunshine" into the lives of children with serious illnesses.
Volunteering can be done in various ways - from assisting the Campground's Arts and Crafts, to using your professional skills to help rebuild the Campground. We are always in need of people able to donate their time to help with Campground upkeep (painting, cleaning, landscaping, plumbing, etc.). If your talents and interests include campground activities, donate your time to teach fishing or archery.
Events and fundraising for Dream Day require a lot of preparation - consider
helping with our annual fishing or golf tournament, perhaps the Gala or
Christmas Weekend. New fundraising ideas are always welcome, so start your
own bake sale or car wash to benefit Dream Day! Other ways to help include
the donation of monies and items for the Campground. Perhaps your kids have
outgrown their bikes or books, and they are in good condition - donate them.
This past winter, I attended a trade show in Boston for my business. While there, I bought some raffle tickets for a children's playhouse and filled them out in the name of dream day and threw them in the bin. Was I surprised when I got a call telling me Dream day had won the playhouse! So, if you've been thinking that you would like to help Dream Day, but are not sure how, I hope you will consider the suggestions above. Your donation may even be tax deductible (talk to your accountant). The feeling you get when you know you've helped another is priceless.
